Avimanyu’s POV :-
I sat in my office, pen tapping lightly against the desk as I signed the last of the contracts. A smile tugged at my lips—I still couldn’t believe it. After all these years, after every fight and struggle, I was finally going to marry the love of my life. My heart felt full.
“Sir,” my secretary’s voice interrupted my thoughts. “Mr. Singhania has arrived for the meeting.”
I straightened my coat and nodded. “Okay, let’s go.”
The meeting went smoothly, but my mind kept drifting back to home, to Choti, and to my wedding. By the time I wrapped up, it was already past midnight.
When I checked my watch, it read 1:00 a.m.
Choti must be asleep by now.
At Home
The house was quiet when I entered. I was climbing the stairs when I heard a faint sound—a low mumble. I stopped in my tracks, frowning.
The sound was coming from Choti’s room.
I pushed the door open gently. My heart twisted. She was tossing in her sleep, her forehead damp with sweat, lips moving restlessly.
I stepped closer, kneeling beside her bed.
“Choti…” I whispered softly, brushing her hair back from her face. “Everything’s fine. I’m here.”
She mumbled something incoherent, her hands clutching the blanket tightly. I leaned closer, trying to catch her words. It was broken, trembling… like she was calling for help.
I sighed, stroking her hair in slow, calming motions. “Shhh… relax, Choti. I’m here. Nothing will hurt you. Just sleep.”
Her breathing gradually slowed, her body relaxing under my touch. She didn’t wake up, but at least the terror eased from her face.
I sat there for a long while, staring at her. When she first came here from New York a year ago, she used to get these nightmares often. I had asked her so many times if something happened there… but every time, she brushed it off, pretending everything was fine.
I thought the nightmares had stopped. But seeing her like this again… no. Something still haunted her.
I clenched my fists. She can’t tell me now. And I won’t force her. But one day, when she’s ready… she will.
I whispered, leaning close to her sleeping face, “Main tere liye jaan bhi de sakta hoon… aur jaan le bhi sakta hoon. It’s my promise, Choti.”
[I can die for you, and I can kill for you.]
I kissed her forehead softly before leaving the room.

The Next Morning
When I woke, her bed was already empty. She must have left for college.
I got ready quickly and reached the office, but my mind wasn’t in work. I picked up my phone and called my secretary.
“Postpone all the meetings today. I want to go home early.”
“Sir—”
“Just do it,” I cut the call, not in the mood for explanations.

At Home Again
By noon, I was back in the kitchen. I had given the maid a half-day off, so the kitchen was mine. Rolling up my sleeves, I chopped vegetables carefully. Cooking was never a burden when it was for her.
I made her favorite—dahi tadka. She always lit up like a child when I cooked it.
When she came home, her face tired from exams, she smiled the moment she saw the food.
“Bhaiya… you made this for me again? You spoil me!” ☺️
I laughed. “Of course. Who else will spoil you if not me?”
We sat together, eating. I decided to ask gently.
“Choti… about yesterday night. Do the nightmares still…”
As expected, she interrupted quickly, shaking her head. “No, bhaiya. I’m fine. Really.”
Her eyes shifted away from mine, her voice a little too fast. I knew she was lying. But I didn’t press further.
Later, we sat on the couch. She leaned against me, her head resting on my chest. I wrapped an arm around her shoulder. That’s when I noticed her tears silently slipping down.
“Choti,” I murmured, but she didn’t answer. She just buried her face deeper into me.
I held her tighter. Whoever hurt you, whatever memory is haunting you… I’ll destroy it if I have to.
Eventually, her breathing slowed. Sleep overtook her.
Carefully, I lifted her in my arms—bridal style. She was so light, fragile, like if I let go, she’d break. I carried her to her room, tucked her into bed, and kissed her cheek.
“I’ll always be with you, Choti,” I whispered, pulling the blanket over her. “Always.”
Then, turning off the lights, I left the room quietly, my resolve stronger than ever.
